Thesis

Many African American students decide to go to integrated colleges based on academics, majors, accreditation, higher learning, party life, and diversity, whereas other African Americans choose to attend HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges/Universities) for racial comfort, majors, party life, uniformity, and experience. But besides ethnic separation are integrated colleges and HBCUs different? Can attending a Historically Black College improve the education of an African American student better than a diverse school can? Although there have been years of efforts to desegregate schools to give African American students equal opportunities, some black students still choose to receive education at black colleges.

Today I met with Dr. Wertheimer to discuss my college fair plans and he gave me a wonderful idea about having a panel discussion instead with both successful graduates from a black college and regular college. I went to Mr. Duty's to hear instruction about video time and editing. Then for the rest of the class I had to research and start my rough draft for my research paper and also think of questions for the panel discussion.

Today's Blog

I went to blood drive presentation in the cafeteria, read more articles, met with Mrs. Fossum, switched to Klanica's room, and looked at more colleges. This weekend I hope to get in contact with some representatives. I am so far in the YELLOW and need to get in the GREEN. Plan B for my project could be get some panthlets have a few people come and talk about colleges or Plan Cm design my own informative panthlets and pass them out to advisories; but I may do that just because. I did not get to survey other classes today but...NOTE to SELF get permission from teachers first!

Today's Blog

Today I looked at HBCU's and I got emails and numbers of Administration offices for representatives. I read some of the article I read yesterday and took more notes. Yesterday after school I met with Ms. McLean in her office and asked her about my grad. project and she told me to find alumni from the colleges in Pennsylvania or closer to represent for them b/c getting them to come all the way here would be difficult.

Today's Blog

Today my side went to Klanica's room. I handed out 1o more surveys to the other side of the class and tallied them. I Read an article called "African American Men in College" by Scott Jaschik from http://www.insidehighered.com/ and I wrote a couple notes on it for my paper. From the paper and other findings I learned that 2/3 black women attend HBCU's than black men. This I find unacceptable because our black men aren't doing what they need to do to become smart and successful. Our men are locked up, dealing, and becoming more and more lazy. Our culture is forgetting how we got this freedom and these opportunities and soon we won't have anything. That is a PROBLEM! SO BLACK MEN GET ON YA JOB!! PLEASE!

Today's Blog

Today, my side did not switch floors. I edited surveys and passed 10 out to both male, female, white and black students in my research class only. I found the African American students where more interested in the fair as I earlier predicted. I made a survey chart and tallied my results. I also had a little time to research one of my considerable HBCU's.
